Headphones are the escape from the world around you. Personally, i find they are at their best in an office environment, especially when you get sat next to that special person who just cannot shut the fuck up! I’m very easily distracted and when those around you drone on all day about how bad their job is I just end up dreaming about different ways to end them.
When you do get time to escape to the gym you sometimes want to completely focus on the job at hand, just yourself, the weights and some of your tunes. I don’t do techno so when that crap is drumming around the gym putting on a decent set of headphones is a must for me, i’m picky about my music and it rarely comes on at the gym.
When it comes to headphones and earbuds they all have their own advantages and disadvantages. Bluetooth, however, has been a gift from the gods in terms of tech whilst working out. I can’t remember the number of times that my iPod went flying off the treadmill with me stumbling to avoid it, bluetooth has changed all that. Whilst a few years ago it was pretty bad these days it is bulletproof in terms of reliability and the battery life on the top end stuff is great.
Bose QuiteComfort 35
Bose are without the doubt the top performers consistently in producing noise. They have converted their knowledge in stereo sounds to bring you some of the best quality stuff out there, the build quality is second to none and with all these things considered they are my top pick for an over-ear style. The noise cancelling stuff works well, for those who do a lot of running and cardio these probably aren’t going to be for you in that environment, but if you are hitting the weights you can’t go wrong with these.
Worth noting that these guys aren’t for outdoor use obviously, but we have some stuff for the runners further down.
Best Earbuds – Bose SoundSport Wireless Headphones
Again Bose are up there with the highest quality in headphones, sound is unrivalled and the build quality and comfort are great. Yes the price tag is a little overbearing, but these things will last. I know Bose are my top picks for the over ear and the earbuds but they just produce quality. While Beats might have the market share through their branding Bose just go about just producing top quality products.
- Sound quality
- Battery Life
The only negative is the price tag, but this is reflected by the quality of these headphones.
A cheaper alternative could always be these, they are a great sounding set of headphones at over half the price of the Bose SoundSport
Optoma BE Sport3 Wireless Bluetooth In-Ear Headphone
These earbuds are our top pick.
- Brilliant audio
- Comfortable and secure fit
- Great value for money
When picking your perfect headphones you have to start with your specific requirements. The two Bose models that we’ve picked as our top headphones are very different.
Types of Exercise
If you are planning on doing a lot of running and tying that with up with any high intensity exercise then earbuds are possibly your best choice. You need something that is versatile in those situations and bluetooth earbud is perfect for those situations.
If you are doing gym work mostly with weights then over ear headphones are there, there are a bit more bulky so if you are throwing yourself about you might lose them at times. But when they fit well it normally takes quite a lot of energy to get them to fall off.
Personally i use both, for the odd occasions that i do venture out for run. I love my big Bose headphones and wouldn’t swap them in for anything. What people don’t understand with there price tag is that they will last.
